“Health Foods” That Are Bad For You #1

Part One: Dairy

When I advise people to cut dairy completely out of their diet they are usually shocked. However, if you only change ONE thing about your diet, the best possible thing you can do is stop eating dairy. It’s a very confusing subject because yogurt and other dairy companies (as well as our government) market their product as health food. Yogurt companies promote pro-biotics, milk is “good for your bones”, and whey protein powder is typically used to build strength after workouts.

The protein found in all dairy products is called casein. T. Colin Campbell PhD has been studying the effects of casein in the human since the early 80’s. In fact, he is one of the front runners in the study of nutrition– a science that is disturbingly unfunded, misunderstood, and misguided by deep-pocketed meat and dairy lobbyists. Here’s a brief synopsis of what Dr Campbell’s studies show casein does to your body:
-Increases cholesterol
-Increases obesity
– Increases risk of heart disease
-Increases risk of osteoporosis
-Initiates Type 1 diabetes
-Increases reproductive hormones which can lead to breast and prostate cancer
-Increases risk for Alzheimer’s disease
-Increases risk for kidney stones
**I must also mention that a decrease or elimination of casein (dairy products) has the exact OPPOSITE effect of consuming them. This means that cutting casein from your diet would decrease your cholesterol, weight, risk of heart disease, risk of osteoporosis, risk of type 1 diabetes, risk of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, or kidney stones.
Another reason to cut dairy from your diet is if you are trying to lose weight. Here’s the deal: Dairy products have a high amount of calories and low amount of nutrients. That is the opposite of what you are trying to achieve during weight loss. For weight loss, the ideal diet has high nutrients and low calories. Fruits and vegetables are a prime example of this. When you eat fresh fruit and veggies, you are getting all necessary vitamins and nutrients and keeping the calories extremely low which results in the ability to eat more or even unlimited fruits and vegetables. When you compare this to a small block of cheese which has virtually no vitamins, high caloric intake, and high fat content, the answer is simple. Dairy is not helpful for your weight loss.
And lastly, 3 out of 4 people have a dairy sensitivity (that’s 75%!).
The presence of symptoms like headaches, cough or asthma, frequent cold or flu, skin problems, stomach bloating, sinus pain, Irritable Bowel, or low iron levels suggest a diary sensitivity.

Dairy comes in many forms:
Cheese
Milk
Yogurt
Frozen Yogurt
Pudding and most other store-bought desserts
Whey Protein
Check in with your body. Do you feel bloated or gassy consuming dairy? Do have daily bowel movements? Do you have to take a digestive enzyme?
Stop eating dairy for one week. I guarantee you will lose a few pounds, feel less bloated, and have more energy. Why wouldn’t you want to feel this good?
